Life is fragile

Rusty admitted to the hospital.

Rusty being monitored.

Here is Rusty and me going for a walk to help his lung expand.

Rusty with daddy too!

Bryce, Grandma, and Lacey. They couldn't be happier being in grandmas care! Thank you so much grandma.

Rusty wanted to show off his cool stickers! :)

Here's Rusty at home on his oxygen ready for bed. He is so happy to be home with his family. We are so glad you are doing so much better my little man. We love you!

Well, I am not sure where to even start. But last Thursday I woke up and and was able to go to the temple with the young women leaders that I am serving with. Kirby thankfully stayed home with the kids so I could. On our way to the temple Kirb called and said that Rusty had just woke up and was having a hard time breathing. He wondered if that was a normal thing for him in the mornings. I replied no, maybe you should get a doctors appointment and I could take him when I get home.

I came home from the temple and took one look at my little guy laying on the couch by his dad and knew he needed to be seen, NOW!

I called the doctor and we was on our way. We got their in 25 minutes. The doctor took one look at Rusty and hooked him up to see what his oxygen level was. It was 82 and your supposed to be at a minimum of 90.

He was then admitted to the hospital and quickly put on oxygen. We had chest x-rays taken and it showed fluid and junk in his lungs which came out to be walking pneumonia.

The first night I stayed with him in the hospital and let Kirby go home to be with Bryce and Lacey. I thought we would only see improvement. In the night around 2 a.m. the nurses could not keep his oxygen levels up even with steroids and other breathing treatments. 5:30 came and three doctors and nurses surrounded him to get an iv started and take blood and started talking about life flighting him to Primary children's.
I couldn't believe what they were saying. Little Rusty was working his hardest to breath. It was so scary to watch.

I got a hold of Kirby and he was on his way down. He had his oil and was ready to give Rusty a blessing with the help of a worker in the hospital.

It was a miracle! He immediately started to improve and his breathing started to slowly get better. It just testified once again that our Heavenly Father is in charge and will bless you in times of need. We all have a stronger testimony of the power of a priesthood blessing and know that the gospel is true.
Rusty was able to come home Saturday night. He has to sleep with oxygen for the next week and hopefully will be doing well enough to be done with it. He was also diagnosed with a mild case of asthma. So we will be working on getting that under control as well.

The day before this we were at the park playing and the next day we were in the hospital! Sometimes you forget how fragile life is and how quickly things can change. We are so grateful for our Rusty and are so glad to see the sparkle back in his eyes.

Thank you mom and dad for all your help and love. We truly could not have done it without you and the amazing friends and family we have. We are so blessed and appreciate everyone for the help. I can't thank you guys enough.

heidi, i must live under a rock... i had no idea. that is soo scary. (cord had rsv when he was 1 month old and was hospitalized via ambulance due to extremely low oxygen levels).

i am so glad you had the help you needed... from your family and friends. And of course, you can't forget about the help from above.

i'm glad he's home. and your home. and that you are all together and that things are under control.

So true! We need to always let our family know how much we love them because they can be taken from us so fast. That is scary. Glad he is ok.

I'm so glad that he's doing a little better :) He's such a tough boy. You and Kirby are great parents and I think it's awesome that you've got a husband worthy to give your little boy a blessing when he needed it most. I couldn't stop thinking about you and Rusty all weekend long and I'm so glad that you've finally got him home. Let me know if you need anything. I'll call you....

oh heidi, i am so sorry! poor little guy.
i had the same thing happen to me just over a year ago. except the x-rays didn't show anything & they thought i had a blood clot in my lung. after hours in the er they admitted me to the hospital & 2-3 days later they really didn't have a definate answer. i went for a follow up w/my doctor & he diagnosed me w/mild asthma.
it's one thing for you to go through something, but to watch your precious little one go through it is so much harder.
i am so thankful to have the preisthood in my home, & to have my heavenly father's love & comfort.
hope he gets feeling better soon. your family will be in my prayers & thoughts.

Ditto, ditto, and ditto to all the comments! There is nothing more scary and heart wrenching to go through this stuff. I know all too well of the pain and suffering! I'm so thankful that Rusty is home and doing better. He is such a trooper. I hope that he is no longer throwing up. I will call and check on you tonight. I too am so thankful for the Priesthood and I testify that it performs miracles. Remember, we are just a shout away. You call us for anything! You are in our prayers. Plus I put Rusty's name in the temple yesterday. Love you guys!
